D&AD Monotype - Brief introduction, Problem Analysis, Re-wrote Brief & Plan/Statement of Intent

D&AD Monotype - Brief introduction, Problem Analysis and Re-wrote Brief

D&AD Brief

Problem analysis & requirements
The sole purpose of the brief is to use the power of type to communicate an issue that I can present in a passionate way using pure type as the main focus point but allow other principles to support the concept and delivery.
Have courage in the concept and how you deliver it.
Use type not only to communicate but also to solve a problem with an issue.
Agitate, Educate and organize within the use of type and its context and application.
Define my audience and analyze a persona/profile to understand how to engage with them.
Type is the only medium allowed but can be supported by adding context and meaning to a strong concept with the use of; Layout, Color, Size, Hierarchy, Customization, Manipulation, Language, Material &Process
Opportunity to work from Monotypes manifesto of the use of traditional typographic principles and technologies within my current investigations expanding from COP to communication and its development within a cyberspace age.
Consider the output and format when considering the use of type.
Look into revolutionary movements and there use of type, learn how it was used to inspire ideas or use these movements as a base for an idea.
Create belief & trust in cause and create purpose and a feeling of motivation.
Create impact, inspire the audience.
Type can empower & support use of words and language. It can add context, add emotion and meaning.
Create a tone of voice.
Provoke further thoughts and discussion with end user.
What do I want to say and how do I say it?
How type supports the message.
Think about the placement of the output.
Mandatory deliverables; At least 1 Poster, at least 1 digital element and at least 1 other touchpoint for example an app or moving image. Consider the format and its relevance to the message.
Consider medium is message theories.
Look into disobedient objects as a way of looking at how type and process was used in protest.
Think about the use of language and its visual representation through the application of typographic principles.
Think about the origins of the type, its original purpose. Can this purpose be changed and manipulated? Whats its history, does this history relate to the problem and subject im presenting.
Aesthetic needs to support context and all touchpoints need to work together and support each other.

Print Exhibition Brief Introduction & Problem Analysis

Print Exhibition Brief Introduction & Problem Analysis

Brief

Problem Analysis & Requirements
Theres a nice amount of creative freedom when it comes too the outcome of this exhibition but most creative limitations lie with the print process's we use to print the exhibited work. Other main issues at current are:
Cost.
Location.
Theme & Concept of exhibition.
Once these are all verified the exhibition can be named, branded and promoted.
This is a perfect opportunity for me to place my COP investigations into a larger context rather than depending on my own work allow other people to submit work revolving around my own investigations. Using a concept/theme that potential reflect the transition of communication from the the physical to the digital.
Creating clear guidelines for submission.
Theres lots of preparation involved, think about whats achievable in what time and delegate tasks between each other based on set time plans.
Drawing attention into the exhibition is important, creating a good promotion campaign will be important here but try keep this relevant to the concept of technology & tradition, explore how print and digital media can be used to promote the event.
This is a good opportunity to gain exposure for EQUIP, mine and joes studio so alongside our COP investigations bring in elements of EQUIP manifesto. Although this is very similar and combines both our COP investigations.

Possible process's exploring traditional & technological process's
Combine digital print with screen print.
Lasercut relief prints.
Scan in and manipulate 2 entrants physical submission and print digitally.
Use vinyl cutter machine to reproduce digital designs into a physical outcome.
