Stott & Atkinson Photography - Brief & Problem analysis and Basic Start Point
Brief
I have been approached by wedding photographers Paul Stott & Tim Atkinson to replenish there brand identity and make it feel more contemporary within a market saturated by obvious traditional wedding photography brands. They want traditional values still to remain within the tone of voice but have a contemporary aesthetic so it sticks out within this market.
There only restrictions are keep it print based and keep the use of a circle and + to reference camera icons.
They are open to suggestions of new ideas as they want to appeal to more younger audiences, but nothing too out there as they still want to accommodate to traditional photography needs.
Problem analysis
How to merge the contemporary and traditional together without it losing focus of it been a photography brand with a specialism in weddings.
What kind of collateral can I create, is there a way to allow them something more than just a business card as a keepsake, something they can use to remember more than just the name of the brand. A snapshot of what they can offer?
Keep within theme feel of there work, use there photograph style to gather a reference too how they work.
Expand on the logo maybe or scrap it all together maintaining the circle and +.
Don't use imagery in terms of iconography, the focus is there work. Type only designs.
This will be very client lead, I need too accept that my usual approach and methodology may not meet there requirements so slight adaptation may be needed.
My brief
Initial thoughts to expand on
Minimal aesthetic too allow precision when it comes to presenting the quality of there photos.
Look into cheap zines as a snapshot of there work for a keepsake of potential clients, a sample portfolio so to speak.
Work on the contemporary repurposing of wedding invites.
Create a very high end aesthetic, this tone will be benefited by use of material as a touch of quality too the brand.
Agreed collateral with client
Met up with Paul to discuss content, we agreed on a business card, letterhead, pricing list and an invoice for basic collateral. Keeping it simple allowing the logo carry the brand at this stage.
We came to an agreement of the zine to act as a portfolio but he didn't want the typical DIY aesthetic of a zine, this will be important when considering the layout, print process and use of material.
